The Latest

*  Rumors are swirling that a top local law enforcement official may be indicted in connection with the Tim Matthews investigation.  Stay tuned...

*  Town of Ulster Supervisor Jim Quigley chastised a fellow Republican at a recent Safety Net meeting for "carrying Mike Hein's water."

*  Guy Kempe has been kicked out of another political party.  Sources say Kempe resigned/was asked to leave the Working Family Party after a tense interview session with Legislator Sue Zimet.

*  Despite the problems the Mighty Heiny has with the left wing of the Democratic Party, it appears Hein will not face a primary challenge this year.

*  Taxpayers can rest easier - former Legislator Gary "Calamity" Bischoff will not be a Legislative candidate this year.  Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

  1. I hear that more than one person is going to fall with Mathews. Apparently a lot of people are going to pay for messing with the guy who held the key to the closet full of everybody's skeletons.

  2. Mike Hein was denied the Working Families Party Line and he is throwing a hissy fit, like only Mike Hein can

  3. Guy wasn't kicked out of the party... there were long standing issues, then the disaster of a "Candidate Forum" that Alderwoman Fuentes put together made him look like an idiot, as he was MC'ing it. Then she went ahead and announced the endorsements to try and shake up last nights Dem convention. He stepped out before she could drag him down with the rest of the WFP around here.

  4. Why would Labor support Hein? All he has done since he arrived was cut CSEA positions while bolstering his own very high priced staff.

He is no friend of Labor and it will come home to roost one of these days. His slash and burn management style will catch up with him.

He is as much a Democrat as Newt Gingrich is.

  5. Why would Labor support Zimet? Last year, she loudly opposed a fifty million dollar prevailing wage project to renovate the Middle School in New Paltz, angering both the local Labor Council and NYSUT in one bold stroke. She's a train wreck anyway.

  6. I would compare the fall of Mathews to that of, not opening a can of worms, but to opening a 5,000 gallon tank of worms. The shit is getting deep and some big names are going to fall; all the way to the bottom. Tis the result when one truly believes one is untouchable.

  7. 8:53 - Guy made himself look like an idiot by commandeering the "Candidate Forum". He allowed no questions from the audience - imagine sitting on those hard benches for 3 hours while Guy interviews person after person? Along with that, he clearly showed favoritism toward his 2 gay compadres, Tom Hoffay and Hayes Clement. While Shayne Gallo only was asked 2 questions, he had Hayes up there for 20 minutes. Guy knows nothing about parity or equality. Finally, after sending a very nasty note to a legislator, those above him asked him to resign.

  8. We DO have a Republican candidate for County Exec. His name is Mike Hein.

  9. I can only laugh when Democrats try to cast Hein as a Republican. Hein is an opportunist, but it was you folks got into bed with this beast. Just man up and admit you own him.

  10. OK, 7:35. So I asked Guy about the "nasty note" nonsense. He said this is the note he sent to Susan Zimet:

    "Susan,
I noticed you submitted a questionnaire and have been scheduled to meet with us for an interview on Tuesday, 4/24 (7:15).

Please know that we will be asking all county legislative candidates to discuss the potential privatization of Golden Hill Health Care Center and Ulster County Mental Health.

In addition, please be prepared to discuss the following issues:

    1) Your support of Sen John Bonacic for re-election in opposition to our WFP candidate David Sager (2010)
    2) Your opposition to a proposed $50 million public works project (Middle School in New Paltz) which was endorsed and supported by labor affiliates (2010)
    3) Your efforts in early 2011 to recruit Vince Bradley to enter for Ulster County District Attorney in opposition to Jonathan Sennett.
    Sincerely,
    -Guy Kempe"

Taht doesn't seem especially nasty to me, although he clearly signalled his intention to put Susan on the spot for her political activities.

I also asked if he was "forced to resign by higher ups." He said "no, I resigned when it became clear that the local WFP committee didn't care about Susan's unsatisfactory answers to the questions I raised."

  11. Zimet isn't much of a Dem. She caucus's with the Republicans anyway. For some reason NP sees her as some super liberal

  12. “He’s a lying sack of shit,” said Donaldson, adding “he’s going to do to Kingston what he did to the Town of Ulster, run it into the ground.”

    Dave Donaldson is my hero!

  13. 735 You are wrong, Mr.Gallo told me that Guy always supported him from day one. Shayne is proud of Guy and the WFP's endorsement.

  14. 2:01 - did you watch the Youtube video of the WFT candidate forum? 3:52 - maybe the WFP felt that there were other criteria that Susan met to receive the WFP endorsement. Why would Guy resign over one person's endorsement? You mean to tell me he's a crybaby and just because he didn't get his way he takes his bat and ball and goes home? I'm guessing that he approved all the other endorsements because he's citing Sue Zimet's endorsement as the impetus for his departure. He has to get his way on everything or he quits? Real mature.

  15. to 3:52 - John Parete didn't quit just because the committee didn't endorse his preferred candidate, Vince Bradley, Jr. The party chair should know "you can't always get what you want." Guy Kempe is a quitter...that's not an admirable quality.

  16. These committee people who do the nominating don't necessarily reflect the attitudes of the voters. It's a good ole boys thing, regardless of party.

  17. Dave Donaldson is right on the mark about Nick Woerner.

  18. Two of the 3 questions posed by Guy to Sue Zimet aren't necessarily WFP issues; they're Guy's issues. Furthermore, of course labor was a proponent of the $50 million project - it would've been a windfall for the masons, the electricians, the pipe-fitters, the carpenters, etc. How many trade unions were going to get some work out of the deal? Just because it was good for the unions, doesn't mean it was good for the taxpayers.

Does WFP have a formal stance against Vince Bradley challenging Jon Sennett? Isn't Bradley a Democrat? WFP hadn't endorsed Jon yet, did he?

Who the hell is Guy Kempe to impose his personal feelings on WFP issues? He's out of control.

  19. 5:36, you are correct, however they got it right this time with Woerner and Madsen.

  20. Hein talks slot about how he is reforming government. What has he done?

    ReplyDelete
  21. 9:35 PM. You don't know what your talking about. Both David Sager and Jonathan Sennett were/are WFP candidates. All three issues were on point for the WFP Chair to consider. The only one that really doesn't matter is the matter of Zimet attending the Republican caucus instead of caucusing with the Democrats.

  22. Vince Bradley Jr. was not a Democrat when he challenged Jon Sennett for D.A. Bradley was not entitled to run on the line, and would have needed a signed "Wilson-Pekula" to let him run as the Democrat's candidate, which the Democrat's Executive Committee declined to provide him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 8:32- Hein single-handedly thought we should redistrict the Legislature. And he drew up the new lines himeself on his etch-a-sketch.

That, my friend, is governmental reformation, brought to you by Mike Hein. If you ask him, he'll probably take credit for inventing the etch-a-sketch, too.

  24. Seems to me that if your chair of a political organization and you can't support the candidate they endorse, resigning is an honorable thing to do- which may explain why John Parete did not resign over the Bradley thing. Parete doesn't have any integrity.

  25. Where does it state that if a party endorses a candidate, that candidate MUST support every other candidate on that line? Did Sue Zimet take an oath swearing that she'd support, in perpetuity, every candidate that WFP has previously supported? Furthermore, Vince Bradley is now a Democrat - he has every right to run, and Sue Zimet has every right to recruit him. The Sager/Bonacic race was last year - I don't agree with her actions either, but to require her to commit to supporting every other WFP candidate in the past, current, and future is ridiculous, especially if that's not a condition of endorsement.

  26. Hey 11:12 AM I also heard Hein was doing the rough draft drawings in the sand of a Cat's Litter Box. After all it's all in a bunch of stuff anyway you look at it no one will be happy of it's aftermath except Mr. Hein the King Of Ulster County.

  27. 9:29 - by your logic, since Sue Zimet should support all the WFP candidates, then Shayne Gallo should support Holley Carnright because both he and Holley received the Independence Party endorsement. Should all committee members resign when they don't get their way or just the chair?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 9:43- well by your logic, it's unreasonable for the Chairman to be concerned when a candidate seeking endorsement has repeatedly opposed other endorsed candidates. It's one thing to silently not endorse or support a Dem/WFP candidate, and quite another to speak on behalf of their opponent at campaign appearances as Zimet did for Bonacic or to try to recruit a candidate for a primary as Zimet did for Bradley. These questions with Zimet seem concern her judgement, behavior and political values. I think Kempe tried to hold Zimet accountable for her behavior.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What does the Independence Party stand for?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why the hell does Zimet attend the Republican caucus? What's up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where is Guy Kempe getting the idea that Zimet "recruited" Bradley for D.A.? Bradley does not even know Kempe from what I know, so he didn't hear it from him and I doubt Bradley has many conversations with Sue Zimet about anything. It is hard to believe that ever happened. Second, why would it matter? Sennett had no holds on the dem nomination for DA in early 2011. Any dem was free to run for it and if Zimet wanted someone else, who is Kempe to ask her or care. As chairman, he is supposed to be representing the party, not his favorite candidates. The bottom line with Kempe is that he got word from the State Party that Zimet was getting the endorsement whether he like it or not, and he didn't like it so they asked him to resign, which he did. He can spin it anyway he wants, but he was asked to leave.
