Mojo Mini's

*  County Republicans held their unofficial convention last week.  There were only two contested races - both in Saugerties.  Incumbent Legislators Laura Petit, Cathy Terrizzi, Mike Sweeney and Frank "the Thug" Fellicello were not nominated.  It looks like the end (hallelujah!!!) for Fellicello, who indicated he may seek a state Assembly post in the future.   Where?  Libya?  Iran?  WTF IS HE SMOKING!!!  Looks like there will be at least two  GOP Legislature primaries - the most exciting of which will be the match up between Bob Aiello & Walter Frey in Saugerties.

* An analysis by Ulster Publishing shows Democrats leading in enrollment in 13 of the 23 single-member Legislative districts.  Voter turnout is usually much less for local elections, so enrollment edges of 200 or less are meaningless.  Nonetheless, the GOP will have to pull an upset or two to maintain control.

*  Kudos to Kingston Republicans for endorsing Andi Turco-Levin for Mayor.  She is the most electable of the four GOP candidates in the race.

* A state audit revealed that Ulster County must reimburse the state $300k, wtf Mike Hein?

*  Pro Golden Hill Health Care Center billboards are popping up around the county.  It remains to be seen how this issue will impact the upcoming Legislature elections.

  1. Mike Hein had nothing to do with the Mental Health repayment issue. He wasn't the County Executive during the time period that was audited.

He WAS, however, Deputy Treasurer & County Administrator during that time period... he seems to think we forget that part of his resume.

So tired of him. Time to go, Mikey!

  2. Lessons in Time according to the Book of Hein:

    B.E. - "Before Executive"

    A.E. - "After Executive"

Therefore, any issue or problem arising prior to year 1 A.E. is NOT, I repeat, NOT Mike Hein's problem.

  3. In instances like this Hein has described his time as county administrator as being a glorified budget director. Now if he wants to take credit for some of Dave Donaldson's work he is then the impetus for all that was good in Ulster County

  4. Cahill will win the primary.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Cahill doesnt stand a chance. Too arrogant and out of touch with the public.

  6. Hein will have no opposition this fall. Therefore I will not pull any lever with his name on it. Maybe if everyone who doesn't like Heinie leaves the exec row blank on election day.

He will not be that arrogant if 80,000 people turn out at the polls and he only gets 45,000 votes. Heinie thinks everyone loves the job he's doing. Large turn out at the polls because of the DA race. VOTE DA OF YOUR CHOICE AND LEAVE HEIN OFF.

  7. Cahill might have a chance but hes to damn cheap. He can't raise money either. Little Dick should just stay home so he doesn't get embarrassed again.

  8. Jeremy Blaber for the write-in against Hein. Can't be any worse.

  9. I agree let's have a big turn out and don't vote for Hein, or vote for Jim Bailey on the conservative line

Hein wants this to be a springboard for his next big run - the party higher ups will not look as favorably at him if he can't rally votes when he is unopposed

  10. Great idea 7:39. Heins ego will take a huge hit if he does not get half the vote. I'll do it too. Richard Pryor said it in Brewsters Millions VOTE NONE OF THE ABOVE. Vote no on the Hein line.

  11. I agree with Mojo, Andi Turco Levin is the ONLY republican that can win in kingston race, period. She is a middle of the road republican and is not too far of the right or left which is Ok in my reasoning. She has some democratic support as well (I am a dem.) and I know other dems. that are going to support her. Hayes Clement is a wealthy man who has not lived and voted in kingston for more than 4 or 5 yrs. Sorry, he doesnt get my vote. Shane Gallo is up to his ass and elbows with the current dysfunctional administration so he DEFINETLY doesnt get my vote... its gotta be Andi. Andi lives, pays taxes, and has sold homes and land in Ulster County for many yrs. and has done a good job as an alderwoman so far. She deserves a chance. She is articulate and is not afraid to speak out as she has for term limits. I agree, term limits are a MUST.

  12. Obviously Cahill is posting on everyone's blog saying he has the edge. Now he wants City taxpayers to foot the bill for the disfunctional Cable Access commission. It must be killing him that nobody is paying attention to what he has to say and he no longer has his tv show. Even if he did, FCC regs wouldn't allow him to be on anyway. Poor judgement and ego proves he would be a disaster as mayor.

  13. Hein will be off to Washington to hold down Mo's seat after they put him out to pasture in August. He's clearly ready for the dust bin, just look at his comments supporting Wiener.

As for County Exec, at that point look to Bea Havranek wanting it on the Dem side...

Best choices would be Paul Van Blarcum vs. Nina Postupack...

    Just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I certainly agree that Cahill will not win the primary. He is way too far to the right, which makes him out of touch with the local population. Furthermore, we got a good eyeful and earful of him when he appeared weekly on channel 23 (ditto Jean Jacobs, Phil Cosme, et al).

  15. I think Andi was the right choice for the Republicans! As for not voting for anyone...I am sure some will but the notion that any noticeable number will leave the line blank is rather foolish. If half the electorate is willing to leave the line blank (as other comments have suggested) then a Republican should easily be able to beat Hein...which wouldn't happen.

  16. I have learned that all vehicles in the Ulster County Public works dept are now being traced. Mr. Hein you better send your minion out Sue R out to see if all those vehicles parked are in the right spots. Maybe her close friend and sneak Patty can help her out on the network whre all they are paked wathch boys p would like to get you. Find all those employeee’s cheating time. How dare you stop at a local store on a break to buy a drink or somghing . Mr. Hein wants to get
Re-elected just do not vote for him if you are a county empolyoee or Ulster County Health Care Employee at Golden Hill. He has a lot of snakes working for him especially at Information Services Department. He is try to promote and use another elected officials realative to get his snake friend on top. F the rest of you folks whom work there he has his whore friend whom he want to run the dept. Most people know whom it is. EVERY ONE AT INFORMATION SERVICES KNOW WHO YOUR MINIONS AND RATS ARE MR. HEIN IF YOU VEND US OUT IT WILL COST THE COUNTY MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN ESPECIALLY THE REPORT SAYS YOU WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHOSEN MANAGERS AND RATS ...

  17. After all of the promotions next year in the Ulster County Democratic party. I think Mr Cahill should have a chance Mr. Hinchey is retiring and either Mr. Dem State Rep. K. Cahill will get promoted or Mr. Hein on his knees will. I would like to see Mr. HEIN GET PROMOTED TO GET HIS WELFARE ASS OUT OF THIS COUNTY GROWTH WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WHEN HIM AND IS NON DEVELOPMENT PLANNING BOARD ARE GONE.

  18. Just a dream I had An Ulster County Real-Estate and Disaster problem that was planned years ago. Mr. Hein has his friends lining up to buy the Prime Real-Estate Property that the County Of Ulster owns. The problem property is 25 south manor ave in Kingston where the county is at everyday peral if the building will collapse or not. When Mr. H Sleight the man whom took the fall and was setup by Mr. Hein and Party for the jail project had a plan to build a building at Flatbush ave the place mr. hein now wants to see just to make it look good so he gets elected again. To make it short Mr Hein wants to sell the Flatbush ave property to one of his best contributers. He Mr. Hein does not care if we are in rented property or not he just wants to vend everthing out to his buddies. Mr. Hein will find if he is buddies with Mr. Comou he is going to see his votes go even further. You see Mr. Comou thinks everyone loves this gay marriage thing he is going to find out a shocker when they hate him and his party the next time going. Mr. Hein at your place of worship will you accept either an man man or woman woman or man dog getting married at your place or worship if not they will lose their tax-exempt status . What a wonderful state I live in at least I can marry my pet soon if this is passed. And maybe get ssi if it dies before I do.

  19. Dem primary voters tend be to the left and Rep primary voters tend to be to the right. The more liberal of the 2 Dems and the most conservative of 4 reps should win. If this is so, then Clement and Cahill win the primaries.

    ReplyDelete
  20. besides the fact that Hayes gay, I dont see how he possiably could be viewed as proggresive. He eaisily could be running in the Republican primary right now. He is not a Democrat.

  21. 12:01 is an illiterate idiot. No church will be forced to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies. Typical right-wing propaganda...use religion to get working class people to vote Republican.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think 12:01 makes some sense though. For what I have been reading it is the progressive plan to do things peace meal. Step One get gay marrige approved. Then after lets say about 5 years or so, Thease same progressive radicals try to institute laws that will take away tax exempt status for those religious organizations whom will not marry same sex partners. It is the same methodology that they have used for having prayer at public events and saying the Pledge Of Allegence in our schools. So 12:01 you are somewhat correct. Just like the way Obama care was put together. The progressives designed that law to make sure private insurance companies are forced out of business. Also to make it more appealing for employers to just drop insurance coverage and pay the fine to the goverment instead of providing a plan for their employee's. I guess the 12:01 illiterate idiot knows somthing about thease cockey snobs.

  23. Religious organizations should pay taxes!

  24. Lots of drama at the County Leg. meeting tonight with Felicello first threatening and then telling Falutico to "throw out" Donaldson from the meeting.
Such fun watching the "boys" playing Legislator and trying to prove whose is bigger.
Maybe some day they will grow up.
And a true embarrasment on a night when Seniors from each school district were honored.

  25. So should the atheist the are a religion somewhat also

    ReplyDelete
  26. 9:12, what the heck are you talking about?!

    ReplyDelete
  27. 9:12 - you can't be serious - atheists don't gather in a tax-exempt building to glorify their lack of a deity. Atheists don't own thousands of acres of rarely-used, tax-exempt river-front property which is worth millions dollars. I remember the year the Town of Esopus (in which the majority of the property lies) got slammed with a 33% tax increase - Esopus and the entire county would be much better off (financially) if these properties weren't tax exempt. New York State should do what NJ does: the first 5 acres is tax exempt and the remaining is taxed at a lower rate. This would exempt city churches from paying any taxes, but would prevent the huge tracts of land to sit there, unused but tax free.

Still, I would rather the church own it and preserve it vs. condominiums or a mall. It could be worse.

  28. I can hear the headlines now! "Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announces that NYS has finally accepted his same-sex marriage proposal: Ulster County piloted the program in 2008 and therefore sets the model for the rest of the State."

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mr. Hein should be proud now he can turn Ulster County into the Perverted Captital Of the USA. I want to know if same sexes can marry why can not a muslim or traditional Morman Marry two or more women. I guess the can of worms have been opened. Just another reason to leave this hell hole of a state. THANK YOU SENATOR SALAND YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE IF YOUR RUN AGAIN. YOU SOLD YOUR SOUL. JUST TO GET A MTA TAX VOTE IN THE ASSEMBLY RIGHT???

  30. Mojo, you are right with giving kudos for Andi turco-Levin getting endorsed for mayor by republicans. She is the one that has best chance to win against dysfunctional Dems in Kingston. Speaking of dysfunction, what the hell is Dem chair Frank Cardinale doing announcing bogus "endorsement" for Bill Carey in 5th ward and Maryann Mills (Heppner) in 7th ward without approval from commiteee to fill vacancies?? He is a bit out of control and will feel some heat over bonehead move. Maryann Mills is the wife of former DPW employee and big time asshole Fred Heppner. She is also the sister of another big time asshole Dan Mills, a crony of Jim Sottile and the current Housing Authority boss ? Gee, I wonder how Danny boy got that job? The last thing we need is another Mills in a place of authority and hopefully the other Dem candidate Jody Edinger wins primary against her in 7th. Also, Bill Carey is a great guy, and even though I dont like the way Cardinale pulled latest stunt, I am hoping he beats Town of Ulster loser Nick Woerner in 5th in primary. Nick needs to stay out of politics, period.

  31. Bravo to the NY State Senate for doing the right thing. How dare those Republican senators try to deprive TAXPAYING CITIZENS equal rights.

  32. Same sex marriage imagine. The Coservatives against the Independence in favor. Ulster legislators endorsed by both??? Gaddy a sell out or Bernardo we know Rascoe just does what he is told? What a voter to think? i could care less I just want to know the position of the person who wants my vote

    ReplyDelete
  33. 11:34 You are on the right track. CE does not stand for county executive, it stands for County Ego.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with 8:26, on several points: Frank Cardinale was wrong with the way he has handled vacancies so far, I am not voting for Maryann Mills for alderwoman, her husband and former DPW foreman Fred Heppner and her brother Dan Mills from Housing authority are BIG assholes, and finally Nick Woerner hopefully gets beat in the 5th ward. Mills is / was a barmaid at "good old boys" country club Twaalfskill soooo....hiccup! we dont need any more of that around here! Hugh Reynolds provides us with enough inebriated discourse!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mary Anne Mills is Mary Anne Heppner. Quit deceiving the voters. Why would you marry someone and not take his name? Is this even legal? I am a resient of the 7th ward and don't like pols who wont tell the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  36. More "good ol boys" news from Kingston. Mary Ann Mills, or should we say Heppner, will no doubt be a rubber stamp. Contracts and consulting fees may be given to her husbands business. Or close friend lukaszewski. If she can't use her married name she should bow out of the race.

Her husband Fred has a storied past working for the county DPW and taking things that did not belong to him. He is now working very close with the former boss of DPW John Lukaszewski. Too much baggage for someone running for office. No wonder she isn't using her married name.

  37. Same Sex Marriage is NOT about civil rights or equal rights. It IS about $$$.

Before reading further, please understand that I neither encourage nor oppose people living their lives as they see fit - but providing the statutory protections of marriage is a different matter all together.

Traditional notions of marriage provide significant protections to married couples in the way of tax (income, mortgage and probate) protections, done so to encourage families. By passing the SSM act, NYS will see a significant shortfall in revenue. These shortfalls will have to be made up by the already overburdened taxpayer.

Pension systems, death & disability benefits, insurance polices etc, will all have to be actuarially reconfigured to absorb the large influx of newly eligible persons to systems that were never structured to provide benefits to this class.

While it's nice to speak in platitudes about civil rights, love & hearts and flowers the reality of the passage of this law is all about money. We have opened the door to a new class of protected persons that has the real potential to bankrupt NYS and its various retirement systems.

I have never been so affronted by the hijacking of my state government. Had this law been brought to a popular vote it would have resoundingly failed as it did in California, a bastion of all things liberal. The long term negative ramifications for this law will be broad and destabilizing the NYS.

  39. 7:12am YES THEY DO. It's called GE. And the last I checked GE generated more tax exempt profits than the Catholic Church.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 11:02 - so we should continue to oppress gays because of the loss of revenue? That's a good reason - I guess by your logic we should've never let blacks vote because they tend to vote Democrat. And you should have to be a property owner to vote - and if you own more than one parcel of land, you get one vote for each parcel. So the rich people get more of a say because they pay more taxes. Maybe what NYS should do is raise the tax rate on the millionaires - that'll make up for the shortfall in revenue.

  41. Democrats don't want anyone to have to show ID to vote because the people without ID will vote Democrat
