First Annual Nooooony Award

The Noooney... for lunacy in government... goes to... wait for it!!!  It's a tie!

The first annual Noooney Award goes to the National Association of Counties (NACO) and NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli for honoring the Mighty Heiny for his Shared Highway Services Program (aka the Clear Path to Bullshit).

NACO & DiNapoli honored Hein despite the dubious success of the program.  According to an excellent article by Michael Novinson in the 7/14/11 Times Herald Record, the program has saved the county only $58,000 and covers only 24 of the 425 miles of county roads - with half of those miles already covered by a shared services agreement before Hein took office.  So far, 6 out of 20 Ulster County towns participate in the program.

This bit of PR puffery was no doubt orchestrated by Sen. Schumer to raise his protege's profile for a later run for higher office.

  1. and now he's going to be challenged by a 77-year old conservative?????
Pleeeeze give me a break, before the campaign debates they will have to hook the old guy up to a defibrillator.

Can't the Republicans or even the Dems find a challenger, almost makes you think everyone believes he who must not be named is doing a good job.

  2. Its nice that Hein can get some of the town workers to cover for all the people he had to fire to continue to pay for his low income housing tenants, and the department that feeds them.
Doesnt anyone see a conflict of interest that this man owns and rents to the section 8 people that the administration should be reducing locally?
Where are all of the people with balls in the local political scene, screaming about this?
UC is so full of small time bullshitters.
Everyone sucks this mans ass, like he is a hero or holds they key to thier future, when in fact he is the main reason the county is full of welfare cases.
Even in front of his office they can be seen pusing thier carts and picking the trash, yet this man and his followers act like he is a savior?
Someone told me not long ago, "The local politicans, dont really care, they just need a job".
I have to assume that they were right.
How can you ride around Kingston, and believe that the entire UC government is not full of people that have never been to a business based city, and seen commerce in action?
Mike Hein and his team, are a joke.

  7. Mr. Hein must be worried about the Conservative candidate that wants to run against him. Mr. Hein has his party and his lawyers trying to get this brave man off the November ballot. If Mr. Hein is so strong why is he worried?? Maybe this brave person whom will run against the corrupt Hein machine know the secret to beat him. I hope he does. We either need to get Mr. Hein defeated or hope his party promotes him to congress or NYS Asssembly if Mr. Cahill takes the promotion instead of Mr. Hein.

  9. For someone who is running against Bernardo because "no one should run unopposed", she certainly is trying to do everything she can to throw Bernardo off the line so she can run unopposed.

  15. Word has it that asshole Bob Dibella and double asshole Mike Hein promised Town of Ulster recreation dept. some bus transportation to an outing at the Roller rink facility of another asshole, Len Bernardo. Guess what? Hein and Dibella reneged on thier promise so the kids in T of U got the shaft. Len Bernardo has made a mockery of the Independence line and whored out endorsements to the highest bidder that can help him out, but he got worked by Hein after Hein got endorsed by the little asshole. Sorry to say that the kids participating in the summer camp in Ulster got caught in the middle. Jeff Hayner, the Parks director in Ulster, who does a great job for less pay than previous director, had a conversation by phone with Dibella and was originally told no, there would not be any bus transportation to Skate Time, Len Bernardos facility. Previous arrangements had been agreed upon betweemn Bernardo and the T of U summer camp prior to Hayner's call to Dibella, the County transportation head. Poor Hayner had to then call Hein's office to ask why the aforementioned arrangement was cancelled. Hein told Hayner he would take care of it and that was that. Hayner had his kids ready to go only to here later on that no transportation would be provided for designated trip after all. I feel bad for Jeff Hayner and the kids at the camp after having got caught in the middle of Bernardo, Dibella and Hein. Seems Mr. Hein isnt the good guy everyone thinks he is...

  16. Has anybody else noticed the hiring binge Hein has been on beginning in late May. According to the Personnel Department website they are looking at over 40 new hires in Ulster County since then.

  18. Jeff Hayner does an excellent job at the summer camp of Town of Ulster, along with the basketball and little league as well. He is doing it for less money than Doc Norton did it for and he does a far better job at it. He and his lovely wife dedicate alot of time and effort for the kids in thier town and he gets big props from me! It is too bad that he and the kids got caught in the middle of politics, especially since Jeff is so NOT a politician. keep up the good work Jeff and Mike Hein will not be getting my vote in next election.
