The Latest - REVISED

County Credit Rating

Last week, Ulster County's credit rating was maintained by a financial firm.  The firm cited the infamous 39% property tax increase from a few years ago as a major factor.  The tax increase ushered Republicans out of power and helped give rise to the Age of Hein.  Hein used the revenues from the tax increase to establish his bona fides as a budget wizard while Republicans took the blame.

Naturally, Hein took credit despite his raiding of county surplus funds in recent years.   Wait......if the 39% tax increase was the real reason for the turnaround in county finances, is Hein still a budget wizard???
Political Roundup

This crazy political year continues.  The latest - a former Republican Legislative Attorney unsuccessfully filing a court action to knock off an incumbent Republican Legislator (Terry Bernardo) from the Independence line.  Bernardo maintained the Republican and Independence lines but was denied the Conservative line.  She faces a primary from Republican challenger.  Democrats have no candidate in that district, so the district will remain in Republican hands.

More important to control of the Legislature is a court ruling throwing out Republican Kevin Roberts' Independence petitions.  Robert kept the GOP and Conservative lines in a district with a slight Republican advantage.  If Republicans lose this seat, it will be nearly impossible to maintain control of the Legislature.

  2. Great time for politics. Kingston has 7 canidates for Mayor. On election day they could have a choice of 5. Republican Turco-Levin, Conservitive Rich Cahill, Democrat Hayes Clement, WF and IND. Shayne Gallo and some guy from the red dog party. Kingston is a mess and none of the above have a clue.

  3. 2:24pm...
If you have all the answers why aren't you running? There are opinions flying around like monkeys in the Wizard of Oz yet you do not give any of the candidates credit for stepping up.

  4. That Painting of Hein looks like one of those done for the good old boys network. Hey if you folks want to see who is sucking up to Mr. Hein go to the New York State Board Of Elections site you can see all the department heads whom are giving Mr. Hein some bucks. It is updated every so often so it is current. It will amaze you of those whom give Mr. Hein money. Even when he has no oppisition.

The democratic choices for Mayor are:

    1. Hayes Clement- An outsider who only recently even voted in Kingston

    2. Shayne Gallo- A city democrat since he was in diapers and a member of the good ol boys club.

    The republicans choices are:

    1. Rich Cahill- Probably the best of the lot and has some good ideas but acts like a little kid when he doesn't get his way.

    2. Jean Jacobs - Failed with the school board and is basicallly out of touch with the real world.

    3. Ron Polacco - Not much of an alderman and has never offered any cuts just votes no on every budget.

    4. Andi Turco-Levin: Great person great ideas. Democratic controlled Council will squash every idea she bring forward just like they are doing now.

They all have there own personel agendas. But whoever gets in watch them steal all Cahills ideas.

I am not running for political office because I am too smart for that. Also the job does not pay enough for me to leave my job.

  6. 6:44 Credit for stepping up? Stepping up to do what? Raise our taxes and cut our services. Cahill is the only one that make sense. As neither party wants him I'll pull his lever in November.

  7. I love 2:24's response. Typical @-hole. If you don't like it, why aren't you running?

I agree that none of the candidates have a clue. You put all 7 together and still do not come up with one viable candidate.

These people are not in it for the good of the city or the people, but rather for their own self-serving agendas. We have a whole county of inept politicians--from Mike Hein on down who are self-serving.

  8. Mr. Hein is not Godfather unless it is the Godfather of Scams. That is what that painting reminds me of.

  9. Rich Cahill won the debate at the freeman on line. This guy needs to be payed attention to, he has a good plan for the city. he came across as a no nonsense guy with a good head on his shoulders and lets face it, he has been the most outspoken critic of this administration and all of its problems. He deserves a chance, and i will vote for him to give him that chance.

  10. I too watched the debate and was impressed with Richard Cahill. I thought all the GOP candidates did ok, but Cahill was the best with Turco Levin coming in second. One of these two candidates needs to be our mayor, the last thing we need is another Dem at the front office. The city of Kingston is a mess under the leadership of the local Democratic party. Take a look around, the proof is in the pudding. If folks are happy with the way things are in Kingston, then let them vote for the democratic candidate. If so, we will see more of the same and more homes will be up for sale. You can start calling kingston shanty town...

Hayes Clement is selling himself as the "new' guy which is bullshit. He has all the old party people backing him. Gallo is quite simply unqualified for the job.

  11. Hey 8:05,

What is your definition of "qualified" which is a subjective evaluation term of the beholder? If a motion picture film star, former WWF wrestler, Saturday night Live actor and a news media, multi-billionaire can be elected to a governorship, U.S. Senate and a major populated city respectively, then the concept of electing public officials with prior public service means nothing to the voters.

  12. Mojo,

I thought this was a county wide blog...

What's up with the hijacking by Kingston City BS?

I personally don't give a rat's ass about the City of Kingston, or the axxholes who want to be king for a day (or 4 years).

Let's get back to the Mojo Love of Heinfest, ala Chuck Schmucker, and Alan Grinsberg...

Kingston folk, start your own blog, and leave us OUT!!! It's your city - good bye, and good luck!

  13. Hayes Clement is so full of shit when he claims that the city council accomplished something good with the merging of the fire dispathers and changes made at the transfer station. Big deal! he leans heavily to the consultants in kingston and that is where the cuts need to be made. They are non aligned and the consultant fees are taking thier toll on us taxpayers. Oh thats right, Clement is a "consultant" himself. HMMM... now i get why he hestitates to cut back on them. I am voting either Gallo or Turco Levin in this race. By election day I will know for sure..

  16. Mr. Hein why dont you donate large campaign chest to the County of Ulster. Use it for DSS programs to help keep Ulster County the best DSS County in New York State. At least you could pay for some signs that say come to Ulster County we give you everything and no hard time applying for DSS Bennies.

  17. so those were a bunch of comedians according to 11:18 that were attacking the kingston cops this morning. The Brits had the right idea, burn Kingston to the ground. It and it's politicians give the rest of the county a bad name.
Sue Zimit running for New Paltz supervisor - now there's a joke

  18. Hayes wants to sell the senate house. This is what happens when you try and elect an outsider, he does not get hometown pride. Elect Hayes and we sell lose the Senate House.

  19. Thank you MOJO for allowing us Kingston voters to express our opinions on your blog. Kingston politics are the best news going these days. Seven idiots vying for one position.

Two lawyers who both say they are the most qualified. Neither of them can make $75,000.00 a year in private practice. SO how qualified are they. They must not be a very good lawyers if they need this job.

A millionaire from the south, do we really think he is in it for the good of Kingston.

The two women are the best for the job. NO TESTASTORONE.

And some guy with a red dog.

Keep posting MOJO we need the laughs here in Kingston.

  20. 11:17 The City of Kingston does not own the Senate House Jack Ass. Nice try. No revenue comes to Kingston from the Senate House. Put Meters in the parking lot.

  21. Hein Administration will have $25 million short fall next year. Who announces this? Not Heiny. Immune from bad news. That's leadership. Voters are getting the picture--Hein will stand for pictures when he can promote himself. All of this is a public awareness campaign on how the CE operates.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Andi Turco-Levin suggested adding parking meters to the City owned lots during last year's budget review. She asked that the mayor call a meeting with the parking commission to discuss but he would not act on it.

  23. 8:05,

You are right when you say Cahill won. He clearly did. Andi second? I thought she sucked. She answered nothing and pounded her fist and stumbled anytime she was challenged.

I thought it was in order Cahill, Jacobs, Polacco, Turco-Levin,

    ReplyDelete
  24. Cahill beat the other 3 like mules. It was fricking ugly.

Let's just dump those 3 get a winner between Gallo and Hayes and let the 2 of them battle it out.

To the guy who running his mouth about salaries. How do you know how much Gallo or Cahill makes in a year? You IRS? No? Then shut the fuck up.

  25. Like the other person said on another part of this blog check out the management whom have contributed to Mr. Hein whom work in departments under him. What is amazing me is some of the management and people from the Ulster County Information Services Department I went back a little bit and I am finding out Mr. Hein is going to vend this department out. He has alot of his contributers ready to screw those employee's out of a job. But there are regular employee's climbing the Hein Ladder in that dept also. There are some whom are close friends to Mr. Heins staff ratting out people just to get ahead while the department get vended out. The reward they get is a job still with The County Of Ulster while the others get Vended out.
